Re: [NTLK] On the topic of a new Newton...

I think that the iPaq is perhaps the best
implementation of the WinCE/PocketPC format that I
have played with. I love the clamshell design of the
HP Jupiter class Pocket PCs too (I use one in my car
to stream MP3s and to connect to my home network via
802.11b.)
I too like the design of the OQO...but at the
suggested retail price of $3,000 (including the base
station, all the gadgets and peripherals) it's a
little out of the league of a personal portable device
I was looking at as far as price is concerned...and
the 2-3 hour battery life is a definate
downer...no...don't emulate this has-been technology.
I'm afraid that any PDA that comes out now will be
crippled by the need to "fit in"
My idea of a PDA would be:
Face recognition technology for security and to
determine the users mood.
OLED...enough said...
2-3 week battery use
Weight under a pound yet big enough to write on
comfortably
Full voice, handwriting and Alpha wave recognition.
10-20GB of non-volitile, non-rotating
storage..preferable holographic optical cube memory
storage
light-pipe CPU
optical character reader and translator (to read
subway signs in foreign countries)
full integration with all current OSs and open
architecture for future OSs connectivity
Yet the ability to remain autonomous if need be.

Come up with something like this and make it under a
grand, and we'll discuss purchase plans!
