I think you're correct. The unit was created by Kyocera, as I recall. I
recently was visiting Yves Lempuerer's TRS-80 emulator for Macs page
(found a link to it on www.emulation.net) and it led me to another page
with info about old Tandy hardware, including the Tandy 1xx units.
That's where it said it was made by Kyocera.

NEC sold an almost identical unit, as I recall. The store where I bought
my first Mac back in 1984 carried them.

Microsoft did the BASIC in a lot of the Tandy machines, including the
original TRS-80, the first computer I ever used/programmed back in about
1977 in high school. (I picked up an original TRS-80 Model 1 a couple of
years back when the place I worked at was cleaning out their warehouse
and was just going to pitch it. Still works!)

My first "PDA" was a TRS-80 Pocket Computer II (still have it - 10K of
RAM, woohoo! Yes, that's "K", not "M"!) Also programmable in BASIC.
One line LCD display and built-in keyboard.
