it sounds like you had problems getting Newt's Cape to "connect".
since you can connect via Eudora (and SimpleMail in later message) --
so NIE is working -- it's pretty trivial for Newt's Cape to connect --
just enter a URL starting with http:// then tap Newt's Cape button or
tap File: Open Location.
of course, there are a zillion preferences, so it can be difficult to learn
all its features and customize it the way you want it, but a basic
_connection_ when you've got NIE working shouldn't be a problem.
(if you do return to Newt's Cape and still have problems, be sure to specify
whether you have read thru Peter Rand's help book, which version of
Newt's Cape you're using, and the exact problem...)
