Just to put things in perspective, I have an eMate that is burnt out from a normal Newton 12v recharger. Plugged it in overnight, and I smelled ozone the next day, now it doesn't work. Will have to workbench it soon when I figure out the problem.

So just because you have a normal Newton recharger, doesn't mean you are 100% safe.
