Matthew,

I bow to your superior knowledge on this, but you have to look back
further than Ancient Greece for the genesis of modern mathematics. No,
your not a "hater"; this is a good and fair debate. Ancient Greece was
an amazing culture, but the modern notion that modern sciences,
including mathematics, began there is a myth that began to take shape
in European academic circles in the 18th Century. The Greeks
themselves, do not take credit for their mighty knowledge, but openly
credit other for providing the bases of their powerful learning.
Not a linguist unlike yourself, number theory such as "Pi" attributed
to them in modern times did not originate there at all. Will begin
digging for sources for you.

Ikem.
