I use Ethernet for Newton, but your comment on a brain-wipe was scary. I
forgot about that.

Serial ports will remain a part of my life as long as I use my Garmin GPS
receiver, X-10 home automation computer and my ancient, but still loved,
Psion Series 3 (whose Mac connectivity from 1992 still blows away anything
I've seen from Apple or Palm).

Stevie boy wants to kill anything considered too pass=E9 for him, such as
floppies, serial and SCSI devices, 2 year old printers, faxing (whatever
happened to NeXT's built-in faxing anyway?), DVD support for 2.5 year old
Lombard PowerBooks, support for WaveLAN/Orinoco cards in X and the latest,
CRTs.

Now maybe The Steve is trying to advance civilization by forcing us to
abandon old technology and embrace the new (at added cost to us and
increased profits to Apple), but I'm an old fuddy-duddy who thinks that I
should be able to continue to use my equipment as long as it meets my needs=
.
Less than two years support for a device is absurd. I'm looking more for 5-=
7
years, minimum.

Ah, what do I know, I'm just the customer.

I'm forcing myself to use X because you either do that or convert to
Windows. It's been very, very painful, especially when you get 4 OS hangs o=
r
kernel panics in one day.
