As far as where the problem lies is hard to tell. It
could be that the wires connecting the controller
board to the backlight element have broken or it
simply could be that the backlight has reached the end
of it's life. It would probably be impossible to tell
without opening the unit. As far as installing a
simple on/off switch, as I said in my post, it should
be possible but I have never tried it. I do no that
holding in the pushbutton will keep the backlight on
indefinitely. Installing a NO pushbutton switch would
have the same effect.
