IIRC:
There were the PC Cards that you could find several places for $9-$14
(don't pay more!) and they worked for certain under OS 1.3 and 2.0, likely
2.1. A couple little cosmetic quirks on the newer OS versions as I think
they were designed for OS 1.3, but nothing fatal.

There was/is also (from standalone.com? one of the Big Boys anyway) a
little DellCrossword sampler or something- has some of the puzzles from the
Dell release but not many. This is likely what you found, and it's likely
shareware/freeware. Sounds like you need to download it again.

And like someone suggested, Xword Buddy, from Tactile
(www.tactile.com),which lets you import the public doamin .puz? puzzles
format, for which you can download literally thousands of freebie xwords
from the puzzle sites. Be aware that Tactile registration key are
reputedly difficult to restore if you have a crash and have to brainwipe
(based on comments made on this list).

I have used a shareware app for the .puz format stuff on my mac laptop, and
there are a lot of neat puzzles out there. For the Newt, I got one of the
Dell cards from macworks for $10 when I was ordering other stuff. I only
do xwords when on plane trips so it should be years before I run out of
puzzles :) (although it would be nice to download science-related puzzles
in .puz format, and use them on the Newt ala the Tactile app. I get more
of the solutions if they are in my field of interest :).
