        Thanks for the reply!

hmm... the post I referenced in the earlier message said that he
had his Newt working fine thru serial w/ IPNR, but I've not received an
email back from him w/ more details (the post is a year old).

VSR I think is a different product than VIG; but I'm not sure how
much the code varies. the descriptions of features are pretty similar.
The sustworks archive did mention darn slow performance from VSR.

The thing I have not figured out from reading the IPNR docs, and/or
the NIE manual- if you are hooking your MP up to direct serial for internet
access, does it use MacIP exclusively (I can't think how ELSE to do it, but
am wishful...) ( since MacIP is TCP/IP encapsulated, as it were, in
Appletalk, I'm SOL then in my setup, since the only serial port on the G3
is provided by the Keyspan adapter, and appletalk will not cross it).
Unless I can provide some sort of dialup access to the G3 (even direct
connect modems)... but IPNR FAQ seems to indicate they don't provide that
capability, but expect Apple or 3rd party people to do so (I've never heard
of it, unless it is provided in one of the expensive Apache do-everything
commercial utils).

Oh well. I guess I'll sub to the nettalk mailing list from
sustworks.com and post a summary and see what my options are. It doesn't
look promising, though.

        thanks,

        Brian
