tied to any Newton mail program. If it comes down to it, I'm not opposed to
writing scripts to convert the mail to an intermediate form if that'll help,

My NewtDump program already downloads mail from the Newton to an "mbox" file, and I have had requests to add the ability to upload messages to the inbox for sending.
