news/mail readers at best.

I can do that with Gnus. Have been since 1994. Before that I used Rmail,
and I semi-co-wrote a filtering/threading package for it back in 1993.
To be brutally honest, while the web boards seem nice, that is only because
you haven't had the opportunity to use something better.
