I love my minidiscs, but to be absolutely clear, they are not CD quality.
They do use a lossy compression scheme by the name of ATRAC. While the
compression is quite good and at the relatively low rate of approx. 4 or 6
to 1, it is compressed audio.

btw, I agree with all the other assessments made about the advantages of
minidiscs and since I have an MD player in my truck, I always hate having to
play CDs in my wife's car.
