Actually, you don't need to wait until the text is on the pasteboard or edgo to copy it. After highlighting in its original place, you can double-tap and drag the copy to the pasteboard, for later placement.

Two possibilities (although this is from an MP2100, and therefore OS2.1
perspective, so the second approach does not apply to a MP120)

Double tap what you have dragged to the edge, and you will get a copy to
paste, leaving the original on the pasteboard.
