unfortunately, if you've got a PCMCIA modem in the MP130's only slot,
there's no place to put a memory card...

I still have a 14.4 modem that I use for testing on my MP2K, so I don't
think transfer speed is the biggest problem. it sounds like you probably
have a lot of packages installed in your limited Internal store, which
probably means that 1) you don't have a lot of store left (and that's where
Newt's Cape puts pages, which still take up space, even when compressed; as
Kenny suggests, you could keep the cache small (plus avoid large pages and
graphics)); 2) you may not have a lot of heap available (each installed
package uses some) that would explain slowness in parsing/displaying the
HTML pages -- so, you might freeze packages you're not using to increase
heap a little; or you could move some of your non-internet packages to a
Card -- that would give you both more store and heap when you're using your
modem with NIE and internet apps.
