Dan,
Sounds like your using Windows. I just had a similar problem with NCU and a
Mac. NBU worked fine but NCU continued to crash my Mac and after several
different attempts at solutions and many reboots the Newton told me that it
could not connect with this version of the desktop software.

I solved the problem by removing all traces of NCU from the Mac, making sure
to find anything tucked away in the system folder, and reinstalling NCU.
Increasing the amount of RAM assigned to NCU is also a good idea.
