Benefits: AppleTalk (specifically, LocalTalk or Phonenet cabling) should
be WAY faster (230Kpbs vs maybe 57.6 kbps). Plus, since you have 2000,
you can get an Ethernet card for running AppleTalk (and TCP/IP too if you
want) and have it be INCREDIBLY FASTER (10Mbps) over AppleTalk, while not
affecting your printer port at all in that case. Don't recall if your PB
has PCMCIA or built in Ethernet, though. If not, you may be out of luck
on the Ethernet front, although you could use an Ethernet to LocalTalk
adapter but it probably won't help - just stick with LocalTalk if you
can't get Ether on your PowerBook.

Did you turn off Appletalk? If not, it'll still snarf the priner port.
Of course, since Apple starting have a combo printer/modem port on
PowerBooks (argh) perhaps there is a problem. I haven't seen.
