Sure! Everybody here does that. Of course, something less respectful like
"Honorable master of the intricate art of Newton hardware replacement" would
be perfectly sufficient, too. We're all quite informal here :-)

Actually, the lockdown isn't that much of a problem for myself. What makes
is tiresome and strenuous at times is the fact that there are so many people
out there who, for one reason or other, require my help coping with it
themselves.

Furnishing your little green friend with a merely brighter backlight
wouldn't probably be much of a problem. Of course, this would depend on how
bright his backlight still is. I have a fair amount of Newtons who could
serve as organ donors.

If you actually want a NEW backlight, which would be a very wise decision,
there are two options. The first option is NewtonSales. For a variety of
reasons not worth going into here I will not touch them with a stick, so I
wouldn't be available for installing their backlight. Last time I looked,
the backlight was USD 49, plus 25 bucks if you have them install it. They
offer blue and white backlights. I don't know how good those animals are,
maybe someone here who bought one can chime in.

The second option is backlight4you:

They only offer green backlights, and every single new backlight I ever put
in a 2x00 Newton came from them. These backlights are very good (otherwise I
wouldn't use them), and they last pretty long.
One backlight is 29,99 Euros plus about seven bucks for shipping it to me.
Recently they introduced a bulk discount, which I wasn't aware of until a
minute ago. The price is 24,99 Euros if you purchase five or more, or 20,98
Euros if you buy 20 or more. I could organize a bulk purchase if enough
people on this list are interested. You could count me in for five. 21 Euros
for a brand spanking new backlight is the best price I've ever seen.

Cheers

Frank

PS Just for the record: There is, at least to the best of my knowledge, no
2001 Newton model. You probably mean a 2100?
