I have pretty well consistently crashed the VNC server in 10.4.11 on my iMac as well as 10.5.4 on my G5 when using UltraVNC or ReaVNC clients on Windows. Installing VineServer on the Macs on an alternate port works fine.

How a client could crash a server in 2008/2009 amazed me, especially when the company is Apple....

FYI - If you're running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard), VNC
functionality is built into the screen sharing/remote management
functionality in the System Preferences Sharing pane. There's a VNC
checkbox and separate password you set in the prefs.
