Hey Frank,
The ROM in the MP2000 and MP2100 are exactly the same iirc.
The difference between the two was the RAM
With the upgrade from 2000 to 2100 you got more Flash and Storage RAM

If you were to check in the MP - under the ROM board there are flash ram.
 the pads closer to the connector are what were used for the MP2000
The set farther away (which are a little larger foot print) were for the
replacement flash memory upgrade.

All MP2000 and MP2100 will reflect NOS 2.1 the patch number which is listed
afterwards in the brackets (xxxxxx-x)

Other than that you can only add Patch updates to the ROM which extend
functionality or correct issues to the ROM.
I'm a layman so I'm using what I know and understand in my explanation.
