Funny you should say that. I thought the same thing though I haven't found
that thread yet (I had a very quick look but haven't gone deeper yet). Your
time-scale is about right too, because I joined this list in 2005 when I got
my Newt and it was around then that I saw (or thought I saw) a reference to
this.
