I don't want to be a wet blanket or anything, but look at the Eudora
project--a much simpler project, yet nobody can decide as to exactly
what features made Eudora "Eudora". Exactly what made the Newton the
Newton? What features would be essential? Do we want/ need backwards
compatibility with older software? data storage? or just the overall
look and feel? Howe about pen input? How far do we go? Those questions
would all need to be answered. I've long wished that somebody would
take this up.... but how and where to start? That is the question...
