Two words: Backlight Plus. Download it, install it, set it in Prefs,
and you will never use another method again.

It creates a hotspot in one corner of your screen that you can tap,
plus it will automatically turn on the backlight based on the time of
day, and there are a couple other things it does. No serious Newton
user should be without it. ;-)
