Just scrub 'em out in Extras--like you delete text.

Alternately, you can hold the pen down over the icon until the 'chirp'
and then make sure the icon is now hilited (I typically draw a circle
around the icon), and then go to the Envelope icon, and choose delete.

Alternately, yet again, tap on the "belly button" or overview button
as it's also called, so that you get a list view, check the box next
to the apps you wish to delete, and once again, a tap on the Envelope
icon and delete.

Scrubbing is the fastest. Selecting the icon is probably more
accurate, and you can do multiple selects that way, but if you have a
bunch, the list view is probably the fastest way to delete icons. HTH
