That is what people said about the iPod not being good business for apple,
but with a little marketing, placement, needs base analysis and of course a
good UI - it can be done. Granted that PDA-only devices are sort of
dinosaurs of the past (Personally I would never buy a plain-jane PDA)

I wonder if he has ever used "basic PDA functions" on mobile phones.
It's nice to be able to see your appointments, shopping list, contacts and
notes (even on non-smartphones like the Nokia series 40 phones) but doing
any sort of data input is a pain in the butt. Don't get me wrong - I can
type SMS messages like nobody's business - but - given the option of a
thumboard (or Transcriber) - I would prefer that over keypad entry any day.

As I said, I would never buy a PDA only device, unless I found a flashy
phone that was just a phone (SMS/MMS/Call capable), best case scenatio =
smartphone

Too bad Apple did not buy PalmSource ;) They could have gotten the POS
PalmOS code, Linux codebase *and* the rights to the BeOS/BeIA. With this,
the NewtonOS, and the BSD/Mach knowledge they could muster up a pretty good
OS to go with their nice flashy (geeky?) hardware.
