Re: [NTLK] Looking for something better than "Notes"

WOW, Koby, what a terrific question!

Total ditto here to locate a quality application such as you reference
like Omini's outstanding lineup for the desktop. Maybe Omni has a Newon
outliner package, I haven't even looked, but I will.

I find myself "almost" content with using the "checklist" stationary of
Newton's standard "notes" type pages. It sines in it's simplicity, but
as you say lacks in it's depth of implementation. I too would love to
find an elegantly designed yet simple extension enhancement application
of the basic Newton notes outliner. Something as you say which could
intelligently render duplicate cut and pastes, enhanced formatting, and
maybe various types of tactical hierarchies such as legal, lower or
upper cased alpha levels, standard or roman numerics, etc., perhaps
compatible exporting capabilities to generate Excel compatible desktop
files, etc. etc.

Like PhotoShop, I'm sure that there exists a clear best-of-breed class
of Newton packages which the seasoned members of this List will be happy
to recommend. Likewise I await with baited breath their shared wisdom.
Thanks Koby for the wake up call. Why didn't I think to ask this basic
question!

One of the saddest fallouts of the Newton's production termination I
suggest was it's death sentence to all of the small businesses who had
in good faith so heavily invested time and money into entrepreneuring
all the new Newton software companies. Can you imagine investing your
life savings, blood, sweat, and tears, into birthing a new business to
create, design, and develop new commercial software for the Newton
envisioning at least a 10-20-30 year life-cycle only to have the rug
pulled out from under your feet just when you might have been starting
to break even or see the light at the end of the tunnel? If you've
never been in business you may not feel the pain of what I speak, and in
the free market it's a known factor going in, nonetheless, the toll of
the Newton's fate was probably felt more deeply by all the hundreds of
independent small developers than by Apple's corporate magnitudes. I
digress. Sorry.

I await to hear recommendations from those in the know of a great Newton
outliner.

10/5/05 Koby Crooks issued the following and I have taken literary
license to pass it along on a "Need to Know Basis" . . . ?
