The ease of this approach is very tempting, but how do you know that
one of the springs hasn't already released.
I have opened more than one eMate that was symptom free and found one
of the springs pressing against the display ribbon with a puncture
already starting.
The only safe way to approach the spring problem is to open it up and
examine it. At this point I would disassemble the spring, clean off
the old grease and apply new grease and the washer. But at this point
you decide to only oil it, at least install the washers.
