Yes, a user I worked with had a similar problem--the cable was not a macintosh serial cable.

When the cable was connected, a

   1

would display, then no activity whatsoever. It sounds like a similar symptom. Try a different cable.

Do...you...have it hardwired???

(Job searching for something techie and creative. Help? Anyone?)
