[NTLK] Tour de Newton - I survived!

Well, thanks to my project management skills, I made it to Lansing prior to
starting my new job - barely! I lost my radiator and water pump after the
first mountain pass into Montana. This was of course late in the afternoon
and miles from civilization. Fortunately I had 10 gallons of water to allow
me to hobble all the way to Billings, MT to the Toyota Dealership. What
should've taken about 6 hours of driving took about 15 hours with the
repeated stops to let the engine cool down enough to continue on. I padded
my trip by one day so I still got to Lansing on time!

No Bear sightings and the two Antelope wouldn't cooperate, nor did the
wolverine, Osprey, Bald Eagle or any other wild animal I encountered. Murphy
struck me again when I pulled out MP2100 #2 to register a gas stop with dead
batteries. Now I had charged these 4x2300 AA batteries the day I left and my
back up battery pack mysteriously died as well? So I bought some alkaline's
to continue on...

I had the best steak of my life in Butte, MT. No kidding! I have had many
steaks all over the world and nothing even came close to this marvelous
piece of heaven. So with the now working Newton, I pulled out my digital
camera to take a picture of MP2100 #2 in front of the "Derby" restaurant in
honor of this fabulous flesh feast (sorry to anyone who prefers a vegetarian
diet), and again the camera's batteries were dead!?! What is the deal with
these batteries, honestly? So Murphy b*tch slapped me again. Sorry Grant -
no pictures.

I met up with Woody Smith at his home in St. Paul, MN. Thanks Woody for the
great hospitality and conversation! Oh and make sure you have Erin/Eric
write down the menu from that great meal he made!

Sorry Matt, the lost day cost me making across to you, but I'll be planning
a trip up to da UP eh, to meet up with Josh and Weirtd Woodsman preferably
on Mackinaw Island, maybe you and your girlfriend can drive to Lansing and
then we can all go up together!

The good news is we already have an offer we're accepting on the house so I
get to do this trip all over again at the end of the month! I'll make sure
to have every possible charging system with me to make sure I have power for
my devices at all times!

Paul Curtis

I'm off now! I'm not sure what connectivity I'll have during my trip, but
will try to at least check-in while in St. Paul, MN and in Chicago, IL. I'll
be sure to take some pics on the way of MP2100 #2 for Newted.org - maybe I
can get a Brown Bear to hold it while I snap a quick one (if the Crocodile
Hunter can kiss a Salty, then I should be able to bribe a Bear with some
honey).

I wish I had found a GPS Card for the Newton for this trip, oh-well.

Newton

Fellow Newtonians,

Woody, How about dinner and some Newton time? Let me know a motel/hotel
nearby and I'll try to make it around 7:00pm ish on the 28th. I plan on
spending the night in St. Paul so I can spend whatever time you can about
Newton's and Life. Let me know if this is ok or not. I promise to leave the
Spartan cheer section in my truck!

Josh, We'll have to catch-up later, I have an Aunt in Green Bay and my
sister in Chicago to visit, otherwise I would've gone through the UP to see
you and then I would've spent the night on Mackinaw Island. No worries
though, I think I can jaunt up to see you the 2cnd weekend of June, maybe
meet you at the Island. I have a dead battery pack you can help me rebuild!

Gary, How about lunch on the 29th just prior to visiting my Aunt in GB?

Matt, I figured I would just stay on 94 and come visit you before I go home
on the 30th, let me know if this works. I would love to meet you and your
girlfriend! If you still have the EzShow and want to part with it, I'll have
cash.

Anyone else in my path that wants to meet up, just let me know!

OK, Here's my tentative schedule...

Day Date Leaving Arriving Visiting
1 5/27 Portland, OR Billings, MT Poutine?
2 5/28 Billings, MT St. Paul, MN Woody Smith (St.
Paul)
3 5/29 St. Paul, MN Chicago, IL Gary Harrison
(Wausau,WI)
4 5/30 Chicago, IL Lansing, MI Matt Kowalczyk
(Detroit)

Josh - I didn't think that Poutine was all that common in the states.
Speaking of a visit, it'd be way cool to meet up with Paul, but I'm really
off the beaten track. Yes, I'm in Michigan. Sadly I'm in the Upper
Peninsula. As nice as the UP is, it's not my favorite place.

Paul
I would love to see you in my Blue and Maize household here in St Paul,
MN a suburb of Lake Woe Begone. Beer, Dinner and a modest selection of
Newton stuff could be shared. Though with the schedule you have a
triple expresso and a couple of digital photos may be all that time
allows.
