Here are some other thoughts:
1. A half discharged super cap seems to prevent restarting the MP2kx.
2. Pressing the reset button while all power sources are removed might speed
up the time to normal restarting to a few minutes instead of 1h+.
3. The output voltage of the AC adapter might be interrupted. A typical
location for a cable break is at the small Newton plug, which can be
repaired :-)
