[NTLK] Save to non-internal, non-default store?

A number of programmes have the "Save new entries to internal store"
options. If not checked of course, then the programme saves to the default
store.

But is there a reason a package can't have a store that it specifically
uses that is neither of the other 2? Such as, Mail V loaded on an ATA card
partition that only saves to the partition it is loaded on?

Can this kind of thing be programmed in, with a catch to save to the
default store if the selected store isn't available?
