Well, I just bought a new camera and its accessories and as I like to keep
track of model and serial codes for my equipment the scanner allowed to
capture them all in a couple of minutes instead of laboriously copying them
by hand and then having to check them carefully - those long numbers, ugh.
That will get you going for all your equipment. Not all codes will be
readable (some of the shiny ones are a pain) but most of them are and you
will have a nice dataset to play with.
Then there are books, scan in the shop for later reference, build an
inventory, search Google with the ISBN etc.
Print your own barcodes for labelling, database searches using the barcode
as a keyword.
Software collections, registration codes, customer IDs and all that stuff.

You should be using Daniel Padilla's inPath driver alfa 2 which gives
options as to whether the trailing character should be a tab or return which
makes it ideal for use in a database package.

My wand scans very fast - as quickly as I can move my hand in some cases but
the angle is critical. Try 40 degrees off the perpendicular in various
rotations - mine seems to like being at this angle with the green LED
pointing down, typical.
