My 130 had both of these exact same problems. The flickering or disappearing
backlight would occur when my battery level was towards the low side. As for
the blob., it started out as one blob, and a couple of months later,
another, smaller blob appeared. They never got bigger, and never interfered
with the use of the Newton in any way, other than the blemish.

Frank's got my baby now. Frank, that's something you may want to look at.
It's the 130 from Darrell and Artur. I don't know if that blob can be
removed or not...
