As far as I remember there is a way to copy the contents of the Newt ROM,
but you better ask Paul Guyot about that.

System patches reside in a special area of the RAM and do not physically
effect the system ROM.

The serial number is generated in a special ID chip on the logic board.
That means changing the logic board will change the hardware ID of your
Newt, but changing the ROM card does not.
