Let it never be said that I'm unwilling to offer my opinion on something I know little to nothing about. Googling, I found One Note at http://download.planetnewton.com/databases/dbnotepad5.htm

The author states there that he rewrote the Notepad as a "page" application to replace the Notepad. He states that you can also run One Note and the Notepad simultaneously.

I think I reached the wrong conclusion because global searches would return the same note under Notepad and One Note, even though I know it was created once, in One Note. I guess they're separate applications looking at the same data store (wow - I just had a flashback of Homer Simpson on a telephone pole (trying to steal cable, I think) getting shocked by the same wire over and over again because he seems to forget each time that he just experienced pain).
