You guys are confusing me, but then I am easily confused. You seem to
use "airport" interchangeably with "wireless." Not to be picky, but
one of those terms is a brand name.

We have an Asante wired/wireless combo router. I have two desktops
(wired) along with two laptops (wireless) and my Newton 2100 (wireless)
connected to the router. I have had all three wireless systems
connected without any of them dropping their connection. For that
matter, I have never had one drop its connection.

I don't know if it will help your situations, but, in the router
configuration:
(1) in the Wireless Area, under the Network ID (SSID) I set up a
specific "group" that the wireless devices connect to. (2) in the
Security Area, under MAC address, I configured the router to exclude
all wireless devices except our three machines. Our machines are
listed by their specific MAC hardware address.

Fine tuning the router to your machines may or may not help eliminate
the dropped connections. You might also play with the WEP settings.

You might also consider stereo systems, halogen lights, microwave
ovens, and other various devices that disrupt wireless devices :-(
