I'm still relatively new to this great list, but I've been around long
enough to know that its members are overwhelmingly generous with their
knowledge, time and spirit. But we also like to save a buck, too, and
most understand that the Newton has become immensely more attractive
now that it's price point is about 10 percent of its original price
(for the 2x00). Personally, I never gave it a second look in 1997,
strictly as a matter of pricing.

My opinion on Joey's new-in-the box 2100s has three parts: 1. He's
entitled to set whatevever price he wishes (and there are apparently a
supply of folks out there willing to pay it, judging by some of the
eBay bidding); 2. I'd personally rather spend (and already have spent)
a somewhat smaller sum on multiple pristine used Newtons with ALL the
extras; 3. I REALLY wish I had been in the right place at the right
time the way Joey was in order to snap up a couple of these babies from
whatever company went out of biz with a closetful of them. Good job on
that, Joey! I'm jealous.

I have noticed (based only on anecdotal evidence) that prices for
Newton items seem to be moving upward on eBay -- bare 2000s, keyboards,
etc, put up by private sellers seem to be fetching 25-50% more than
four or five months ago. Perhaps that's why some have bid up the price
on Joey's new Newtons, and why he is setting a price many on the list
consider very high.

Joey, I think the reactions you've been getting to your post probably
stem from a tradition on this list I have observed and admired that
puts a premium on bartering, tradiing and passing on good deals to
fellow list members without a great deal of profit-taking. Typically,
items will be offered to the "Newton faithful" here for less than they
might fetch on eBay, not more, and if you've gotten a somewhat chilly
response to your posting, I think that is the reason. This is not a
criticism, just a possible explanation.

I personally wish Joey good luck with his sales -- and I hope if he
can't sell them all at his current asking price that he'll let the list
know how low he might go.
