You'd be surprised what kinds of talents companies look for.

I know a man who had a degree in agriculture-- who was hired by a
power company back when rural electrification was still going on.
Seems the power company needed someone who could talk to farmers and
sell them on the advantages of electrification, and felt it was
easier to teach a 'farmer' electricity, than to teach an 'electrical
engineer' farming.

All a degree -really- represents to a company is that you are
trainable, and have enough stick-to-itiveness to put up with 4 years
of training! (:

As far as chemical engineers at Apple.... maybe they're working with
organic LEDs, and need chemists to do some exploring. Or maybe
they're playing with their own disks, and need someone to work on the
oxide coatings...
