Is the message you see after reboot something like:
"rebooted because the battery was dead?"
Check if that happens even with the ac power adaptor connected.

I assume that the problem is a bad contact between the battery pack and the
contacts in the battery slot.

1) if you release the battery pack, the force of the big contact spring
should be sufficient to push the battery pack slightly out.
If this is not the case then you can open the Newt and bend the main spring
a bit in order to readjust it.

2) there are two other contact springs (opposite side of the two contact
pads you see on the battery pack) that may have a bad contact as well. Check
these contacts as well. You can open the top cover of the battery slot cage.
There was one case recently that the two wires to those contact springs were
not connected.
