You can set the contrast slider to have its mid-point higher or lower to
give you more levels of contrast. I believe you double-tap on the slider
label to set this but I'm not sure.

AFAIK, this is completely normal. My 2100 does this and I read about it
in an Apple technote somewhere. It's the power transformer or something.
