While you may be right about the remote access (I couldn't get it to answer
the phone) NCU doesn't know how to answer the phone, nor dial, so you end up
with two modem connections not connecting to each other. I did some
extensive playing with this feature, and I ended up deciding that it cannot
be done. If it's possible, then I really missed something.

I think the modem connection on the Newton was originally intended only for
calling to get OS updates, and nothing more. As to why the modem connection
was added to NCU, it is possible that Apple had something in mind, but like
IrDA, it was never completed. :-(
