Ok, I've sat and muddled this in my brain for long enough.

And since my name is being bandied about as one of the 'trusted ones' - I
feel like Eddie Murphy in 'The Golden Child' - I should probably speak
up, right?

I am all for the concept of a Newton Fund. However, my concerns are
similar to the ones that Victor voiced earlier on. I don't have a lot of
extra time to spare between my family, my own Newton projects, the Newted
Community site, and oh yeah... my real full time job.

I am not too worried about someone running off with the spoils, because I
feel that the majority this group, especially those who are currently
developing and supporting their own products for the community, are quite
trustworthy. However, there really does need to be some level of overall
management and fiscal responsibility for a fund like this to work. I
don't think any us have the time or the inclination to do it. And do it
well.

But, we can all help to support those current projects we know and love
without having to create some arms-length managed fund. If you like the
SER-001 and what David Humphreys is doing, send him some money on your
own account. Likewise, if you trust what Victor is doing, buy a
NewtonTalk shirt or an UNNA CD. Go and register your copy of NewtsCape or
ATA Support or the WaveLan Driver. Purchase a serial number for John's
NewtSync. Donate some money to the Newted Community. That's how we can
pull together - simply.

Complex things don't work without a lot of support and resources. As much
as I love this community and the people who occupy it, I don't think
we're ready for such a huge commitment as a development fund.

I'd love somone to prove me wrong.
