I tried that in NZ and they say that Apple New Zealand have no stock and no
access to any stock in the States!
Just pitching in another anecdote.

The battery tray is on the CURRENT Apple parts lists. Have your local
dealer and/or service center search the current parts list for newton. IIRC
it was at or less than $35 US (not counting shipping).
