[NTLK] O/T - Unintended feature of the iPod

Salutations,

It seems the iPod has the ability to bring great amounts of bitterness out
of people.

I can understand why someone would want to say that something is a great
product. If they like a product then I can understand them saying what a
cool or useful product it is. Or how they have been waiting for just such a
product or features in a product.

I really don't understand why someone would continually write about how
poor they think a product is. I've been thinking about why someone would
want to proclaim that a product will fail and that it is the absolute worst
idea in the world. I it is not as if the criticisms would do any good.
Maybe it is so later they could say 'I told you so'. Maybe it is a way to
'get back' at the company that makes the product. Maybe it is just to
continually rebut the arguments of the people who think it is a good
product.

I am sure some people would say that people writing to praise a product is
the same as people writing to criticize it. I see a difference in the
reasoning there. I see a difference in saying 'Wow, what a cool idea' and
'What a stupid idea. It will fail. Remember my words'.

I'm not saying that one way it right and the other is wrong. I have found
myself on both sides of the above situation.

So why do you think people write such venomous messages on how or why they
think a certain product will fail?

David
