To the best of my knowledge 120's have never been able to "talk" that way,

is I think an os 2.1 feature and thus only available on MP2K and eMate.

This is normal. The 120 only monitors the battery voltage for this display.
If you start charging a NiCad battery, the voltage very fast reaches what
this battery would have fully charged without the charger attached to it,
hence the MP shows 100%.

The 120 will automatically know when to stop charge. For that it monitors
the voltage and the cell temperature. When the charging is stopped has
nothing
to do with the battery capacity display in Extras.

As soon as you remove the ac adapter (well, about a minute later) the
reading
should be accurate.

Unless I gravely misunderstood you, this is the expected behavior of all
Newton prior to MP2k / eMate.
