Unfortunately, I experience intermittant problems with my
SER-001 too. It works fine about 80% of the time, but
occasionally the serial connection drops during a package
install or other NCU operation. Using the dongle is a pain, but
more reliable. I suspect the cause is some problem with the
security of the connection between the PCB and motherboard. It
could be excaberated by some problem specific to my Newton, like
a slightly warped case. Most other users apparently haven't had
these kinds of problems so I guess I'm just unlucky. :-(
