Hi Jim,

I just gotta ask...do you work for Microsoft? What do your fellow
Microsofties think about you carying an MP? :) Just wondering...

Okay, things you should ask about:

1. Is the screen scratched or have dull places on it? (possible screen
replacement)
2. Draw lines on the screen. Does the line follow the sylus smoothly? (if
not-possible jaggies-possible screen replacement)
2. Is the backlight functional and bright? (possible screen replacement)
3. Is the screen cover (door) in good shape? No hairline cracks at the
hinge points? (possible door replacement - $10.00 USD + ship)
4. Is the NIC (Dongle) port is good shape? Not loose? Good connections to
the Dock app? (possible port repair-$135.00 for this alone)
5. does the case have any worn spots? On the corners? (looks bad)
6. Are both of the screen cover holdback clips on the back of the unit
intact? Have they ever broken? If so, how were they "fixed"? (Damage to
the case/unit)
7. Is the hinged door at the top of the unit intact and in good
shape?(Damage to the case/unit)
8. Are the PCMCIA Eject buttons on the right side of the unit intact and
functional? When used, does it actually eject the card? (Damage to the
case/unit)
9. Are both of the PCMCIA slots in good working order? Tested? with what?
(potential unit replacement for non-functional slots)
10. Does it come with the origianl stylus? If not, what ARE you using?
(styli are hard to come by that fit in the unit)
11. Does it come with the AA battery cage? If not, why? (When all the
battery packs expire, this is what you'll have to use)
12. Does it come with an Apple rechargable LiMH battery pack? Does it hold
a good charge? Do you have additional battery packs available? (get as many
good ones as you can - ~2-year life)
13. Does it come with an NIC Dongle (serial port adapter - VERY important!
- can't dock or connect to desktop, can't load software without it)
14. Does it come with cables to connect it to your desktop? If not, why?
(VERY important! - can't dock or connect to desktop, can't load software
without it)
15. Does it come with the original CD of Newton bundled software? If not,
why? (not critical, but nice to have)
16. Does it come with any accessories? (modems, memory cards, cases,
ethernet card, video-out card, GPS, aftermarket styli, etc.)?

Anything bad wrong with the Newton can be fixed by Apple for $189.00USD,
which is a flat rate to fix EVERYTHING that is wrong. If there is much
wrong, they replace it with a new one.

Get an MP2100 if you can, else get an MP2000 far cheaper and have it
upgraded (~$200.00USD)

Good luck!

Regards,

Gary

One more question for y'all. What are some things to watch out for
in an MP2x00 as I look for one to buy?

        Thanks,
