Actually, the MP2k doesn't have a lithium battery...

The original messagepad and the MP100, and I _think_ the MP110 all used
SRAM, which will lose data if all power is removed.

All the later Newtons use flash RAM, which doesn't actually _need_ power
to preserve data. So no matter what you do electrically, short of frying
it, will kill your data. Just software errors...
