This is normal. 100% for alcalines means 6 volts, 100% for NiMH's means 4.8
volts.
As your MP thinks there are alkalines installed, it reports less than 100%.
You might want to get an application to change the battery type as someone
else suggested. Otherwise the Newton's automatic shutoff due to empty
batteries
occurs a bit too late, i. e. at a time when the rechargeables have been
discharged
deeper than they should.
