NTLK RE: backlighting

are you speaking in general terms about "white" backlighting??

because, EL and CFT are two totally different types of lighting.. the CFT
backlighting is reflected from the sides of the screen on notebooks.. and EL
backlighting is direct..

every white EL panel that i have seen, has been really bright.. not as
bright as a CFT, but, none the less, pretty bright..

Jon,

The white we are talking about is not like a floodlight but more of a soft
glow.
The contrast is much better than green.
Some of the reasons for the green backlighting are:

Longevity- Green phosphor lasts longer.
Sensitivity- The color green is at the center of the eyes peak sensitivity.
Cost- Green is marginally cheaper.

White backlighting is used in myriad notebooks, PDA's and displays.
If there was a problem you would not have such tremendous sales of these
devices.

But, if all this fails to convince you, I am also looking at a brightness
control, something that is missing from the original Newt ;)
