For a start, make sure the volume and contrast sliders are in middle
position. If they are both set to minimum, eMates appear to be dead for all
intents and purposes although they are perfectly healthy.
If this doesn't fix things, make sure to remove the ROM board and put it
back as Woody suggested. If this doesn't help, run it through the reset
sequence I outline here:

    http://www.pda-soft.de/emate_disassemble.html

Before you start, remove both power adapter and battery and let the eMate
sit for 24 hours. Not doing it EXACTLY as described, regardless of how
unimportant the change may seem to you, is the most reliable way to fail
miserably.

If nothing of this helps, send me the mainboard and the LCD display along
with the display cable. Before you do this, get in touch so that we can
avoid my having to drive 50km to the customs office and 50km back.
